Talk About a Rough Week!

No matter what one's political persuasion is President Obama has had a pretty rough week and the media has had a "hay day" with it. On Monday April 27th, a plane that was a back up plane for Air Force one caused a massive panic in downtown New York City and the media did not fail to take advantage. Even MSNBC weighed in, which tends to be in favor with President Obama. The President was angry and promised that it would never happen again. That very same day President Obama had another mishap during a live press conference, he accidentally read ahead, luckily for him he is witty and can make a joke and recover from a mistake. The media still hammered him for making this mistake anyone could have made. During another live press conference this week another mishap occurred. Speaking at the FBI headquarters, an individual fainted causing him to once again speak in impromptu fashion and he did make sure the individual was okay. On Wednesday, the media almost paraded around the fact that he had completed his first hundred days in office. Historically, it is important, because it shows how the President will perform for the rest of his term in office. The media has been bombarding the public with both negative and positive messages about the President. Both Obama supporters and opponents all agree that he has faced some of the worst challenges since the Depression era; however they disagree as how he has handled them. Last, but not least, on Thursday, Vice President Joe Biden was accused of "fear mongering" when he said he would personally tell his family not travel by plane or subway, during an interview. The media did not let this one by for him or the Press Secretary. When President Obama entered the White House he knew of the amount of public attention he was going to get. This week was a rough one for President Obama and I'm sure there will be more to come. When something happens in the future, one thing is certain, the media will be there to cover it not be afraid to weigh in.

  1. Great Post Zach, but its not like Obama is the first president to be heavily scrutinized, and criticized over. Bush and Clinton both took a beating from the media, and in some cases it was pretty disrespectful. Oh well, they knew what they were getting themselves into..

  2. That is a rough week! I have not been watching the news so this is all new to me. I thought it was funny how the guy fainted and he made some jokes to kill time. I also agree that he is not the first to be scrutinized by far. Especially with everyone going crazy over George W. Bush I am pretty used to this kind of stuff.

  3. I like the fact that your blog is about super heros, and this week you chose to write about President Obama. In a lot of ways, many people view him as a super hero trying to save our country.

I must admit, with all the online homework watching the news has taken a backseat in my life, so thanks for keeping me updated on what has been going on with the pres. He has had a lot to deal with and try to fix in his 100+ days of being president. It can't be easy.

  4. President Obama has a lot riding on his shoulders, a whole country and more to be exact. He is expected by the media and the public to be one of the smartest, wittiest, and most perfect men in the United States. After all you could say he does run the country. When Obama makes a mistake that anyone could make it becomes a big deal because not just anyone made the mistake, our leader made it. People do not see him as just another human being who makes a mistake here and there, they see him as the man who is perfect, the man who is going to lead the country into prosperity again. But he is only human and we need to remember that.

  5. President Obama is pretty good at thinking on his feet. It's nice to see the President saying something off the cuff, not something that many many speechwriters and other people on his team have written and rewritten.
The person fainting video made me laugh. I didn't know about any of this stuff, since I've been really busy lately.

  6. Obama has a tough job ahead of him, and will most likely keep being beaten up by the media. He is for sure the most heavily scrutinized president there is, and most likely will be until a woman takes office, and then that Lady will be about the same. The reason behind this is because he is tredding new turf, and the people either love him or hate him, I saw proof of this Today, with an Obama sucks Sticker on the back of a vehicle in front of me. It should get better, when everyone realizes he is our president now, and should support him, instead of badgering.

  7. Its true Obama has a heavy burden to bear as the new President. I think he will be just fine in the long run. He is a tough guy and is very intelligent. He will be able to handle anything that is thrown his way in the future. We really need to pull together as a nation and start to support him.
