Distinctive Differences Amongst the "3 Greats"
Last week I addressed how these monuments of justice had several similarities. This week is the "yang" to last week’s "yin" and I will discuss some of the "3 greats'" differing qualities. First, I will begin with the obvious....their powers. Superman has the ability to do pretty much anything from beaming lasers out of his eyes to flying around the world backwards "turning back time" to save his precious Lois. Superman isn't even human in the first place and he was born with his powers. Peter Parker obtained his powers after being bitten by a genetically enhanced spider giving him all of its abilities. Spiderman has his "spidey sense" that allows him sense when danger is near, verbalizing his oh so cheesy line “My spidey senses are tingling" and of course his webs. Lastly, there is the least of the fictionalized, as far as powers come along, Batman. Batman doesn't have his own unique abilities beyond being a ninja and possessing the ability to utilize his utility belt to its fullest advantage. The next distinguishing factor I will point out is the difference between their modes of transportation. Beyond the "vehicle" he rode to Earth in he never was really shown to drive anything, mostly just riding around in taxis....and of course the whole flying around thing. In Spiderman 3 Peter was shown as driving around on his mo-ped....he was a college kid give him a break. Batman is notorious for his various forms of transportation, both while fighting crime and while being a civilian (I cried too...it was a beautiful car). He is more notorious for his crime fighting vehicles, which I'll admit are pretty sweet. Lastly I will discuss how they get into their costumes. Superman, has always been known for the quick change in the phone booth, which I must say is a pretty cool trick, but doesn't play out the way he wants it to sometimes....never the less keeping it on him at all times. Spiderman in the movies is portrayed as keeping his suit in a chest under his bed. Batman, on the other hand, has his suit hanging up in an ominous looking "clear vault" in his Batcave, never really keeping it on himself. These are just a few differences that these heroes have, of which there are many more. As different as they may be, they have continued to thrill movie goers and many superhero fans embrace the diversity that these characters have to offer. Much like you and I we have a multitude of things in common, but we differ on many different levels. Life is much more interesting with diversity and it should be embraced….it makes life just that much more interesting.

You never cease to amaze me!!! Your points are so obvious, yet, I have never thought of them really. You blaze a new path of thought and exploration on an "ordinary" topic.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree that diversity should be embraced and not feared. Without diversity this world would, pardon my language, suck. Being just like everyone else would take the fun out of living.
I agree with Elise, I never thought of the things mentioned here about the superheroes. Yet, I believe Gotham sees Batman as a Villain, and I also cried (for the Car). lol Also doesnt the Newspaper in Spiderman portray him as a villain? Is this what your referring to as the diversity? I do believe that people fear what they do not know. Other than that good post, and i bet your Excited for The Watchmen ay ?
ReplyDeleteI'm thankful that these superheroes have different characteristics. If all superheroes were concocted out of the same recipe, that would be incredibly boring. The only thing superheroes should have in common is their desire to help the world.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I was sad for the car, too.
Ever since I had been a kid, I always like super heroes. Personally, my best superhero character is Batman; I have watched the cartoons and the comics when I was a kid. His transportation has always been the best. I do agree with you on him being the best in riding in style and riding the best vehicles of transportation. Batman would always be my best superhero would always be better then Spiderman and Superman.
ReplyDeleteThe three major superheroes differ in these ways but they would have to differ in order for each of them to be popular. If they were the same, no one would watch each one. The second one would be just considered a copycat. And then the third superhero would not even have a chance.
ReplyDeleteIn all there differences, transportation is the most interesting in my opinion. Batman's vehicles make him the coolest in my opinion and I think they make his movies better than the other superhero's if you ask me. Superman seems like an antique superhero to me because he has not had a movie or television show in recent years but his ability to fly and his strength still make him very cool. Now Spiderman on the other hand, he has his webs and swinging around which would also be awesome. After seeing all their differences, I think Batman is my favorite superhero mostly because of his gadgets and vehicles.
